Implementing Best Practices for Blood Management

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the prevalence, incidence, etiology, and impact of anemia in medical and surgical patient populations
  • Recognize and list the complications associated with blood transfusion on patient outcomes
  • Assess available pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic strategies in blood management, as well as the potential of new drugs and procedures
  • Utilize appropriate dosing regimens for erythropoiesis-stimulating agents
  • Implement critical pathways for patient blood management on hospital-wide level

This activity is designed for anesthesiologists, critical care nurses, critical care physicians, hematologists, hospitalists, intensivists, oncologists, surgeons, surgical nurses, pharmacists, and hospital administrators.
